The Bottlenose Dolphin The most common members of the Delphinidae family, the Bottlenose dolphins are a staple of Anna Maria Island and have attracted tourists worldwide. Locals and vacationers alike come to marvel at the acrobatic feats these dolphins display from time to time.   Dolphins are active predators and have a diverse diet of fish, crustaceans, and squids. Sometimes one of our guests at our vacation rentals will be lucky enough to witness the dolphins in action. A method the dolphins use in our area is called “pin wheelingâ€�. Dolphins in the Intracoastal Waterways may roll onto their sides with one of their flippers raised high as if to create a barrier. They encircle a large school of fish, splashing their tail flukes and forcing the school of fish to tighten until the dolphins are able to capitalize on this quick meal.   Whether you plan to come to Florida for a trip to Disney World or to beat the cold winter up North.
