Enter the South building of the Water Edge complex through a secured lobby and take the elevator up to the 2nd floor. An open living room with lots of light and the fabulous view will greet you. The condo features 1 bedroom with a king size bed , 1 1/2 bathroom with a shower/tub combo. It also offers a sleeper sofa in the den area, so there is plenty of room for 4 guests.
The large heated pool is located between the two Water Edge buildings. You can swim in the heated pool and gaze out over the Gulf! There are loungers to soak up the sun. Tennis courts are across the street for your enjoyment.
There’s parking for one car for those who would like to drive to their various excursions or relax and try the free trolley. One of the many stops is close by on Gulf Drive. Explore the island and meet locals on the bus!

National Night Out on Anna Maria Island

The Holmes Beach Police Department invited to their National Night Out on Anna Maria Island and lots of people came and enjoyed the outdoor activities on a warm fall evening.

This national event began in 1984 and started simply with neighbors turning on their porch lights and sitting in front of their houses. It is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch in the United States and Canada and has evolved into much larger festivities. The National Night Out 2016 had a participation of 38 million residents in 16,000 communities across the United States. Most communities celebrate the first Tuesday in August. Texas and Florida shifted the date to the first Tuesday in October due to the warmer climate. The event was created to increase awareness about police programs in communities like drug prevention, town or neighborhood watch and other crime reducing  efforts. It is supposed to build neighborhood camaraderie.

 

This October 2, 2018 many island organizations, companies and the Holmes Beach Police Department put a great outreach program together. It was bigger than last year and took place at the City Field North of the Holmes Beach City hall. The festivities lasted from 4-8 pm and included a number of activities like slides, skill games, free food, bike and toy giveaways. Many island shops offered hot dogs, tacos, popcorn, snow cones, ice cream and barbecue items.

 

 

“DUNCAN DUNKINGS”

Duncan Real Estate sponsored the dunk tank that featured the police chief, the mayor of Holmes Beach and most popular with the island kids some teachers of the local Anna Maria Elementary School. Lines were long for the educator dunkings!

Mullet Season is Here!

With the temperatures starting to drop and the promise of cold fronts later this week we can expect our local mullet fisherman to be out in full force. The cooler weather drives the fish to school in large pods allowing the fisherman to catch the fish in much greater quantities. The season is dependent on the weather but usually lasts from early December to March. If you are staying in one of our vacation rentals during the winter months you will more than likely see these fisherman off the beach or on the road where they tow the boat to different areas.

The fish is primarily harvested for the roe which is then shipped to foreign countries where it considered a delicacy to eat. Not until recently has the fish been cured and distributed domestically. The end process is known as Bottarga and can be found at various restaurants around the United States. If you would like to try Bottarga locally we suggest Central Cafe or the Sandbar Restaurant.

Best Burgers on Anna Maria Island

Duffy's

For the Best Burgers and Coldest Beer on Anna Maria Island look no further than Duffy’s Tavern located at 5808 Marina Drive, Holmes Beach. Duffy’s Tavern is family-owned and operated for over 35 years by former Holmes Beach mayor Pat Geyer. Pat and her five daughters Patti, Pam, Peggi, Penni and Polli have a simple selection with Burgers that will knock your socks off!

Try an office favorite of Duncan Real Estate is the Brie & Carmelized Onion Cheeseburger.

Duffy’s Tavern is open Monday – Saturday 11am to 8pm and Sunday 12p to 8pm and they are Closed on Tuesdays. Duffy’s was voted one of the top 10 “hamburger heavens” in the country by USA Today.

This local’s favorite has proven the test of time. Locals love Duffy’s and visitors come back year after year raving about the service, food and the little something special Duffy’s Tavern brings to Anna Maria Island.

Anna Maria Island Trail of Treats

It’s that time of year again!  I hope everyone is getting ready to attend the 2014 Halloween Trail of Treats.  The Anna Maria Island Chamber is Sponsoring the Trail of Treats and it is going to be held Friday, October 31st starting at 3:30pm starting at the Anna Maria Island Chamber.  There will be with a Kid Costume Contest for children ages 0-12.

Children and their families can go from business to business trick or treating and you don’t even have to be a member of the Anna Maria Island Chamber of Commerce to participate.  This is an annual event that kids of all ages look forward to!

If you are ready to have a spooky good time this Halloween here are the event times broken down by City:

Holmes Beach businesses: 4pm-6pm

Anna Maria businesses: 5pm – 7 or 8pm

Bradenton Beach businesses: 5pm – 7 or 8pm

Trail of Treats kicks off with a costume contest from 3:30-4pm at the AMI Chamber of Commerce, free photos in a photo booth provided by Walgreens & participating businesses passing out treats to the kids. We hope to see you there!
