Calm before the Storm: Hurricane Irma!

Hurricane Irma has gotten everyone in a flutter.  We are super busy on Anna Maria Island  taking down signs, moving in outdoor furniture and all around getting prepped at all vacation rentals just in case Irma decides to head our way.  It is so hard to be in this “limbo” to see exactly the path of the storm and sometimes these hurricanes can turn at the last minute.  Everyone at Duncan Real Estate tries not to watch too much about the hurricane and really only visits the National Hurricane Center website for our updated information.

The important thing is to stayed informed and to prepare you and your family.  There are so many websites and info available to you, but we find that the most helpful information comes from the National Hurricane Center website.  To help you and your family prepare, check out this link as well – it sums up how to prepare and get ready for a major storm.

A few important items if you live or work on Anna Maria Island.  If there is a mandatory evacuation, you will need a pass from one of the cities on AMI to get back on the island.  If you are a resident, you need to visit the city hall within the city that you live – either Anna Maria, Holmes Beach or Bradenton Beach.  You will need to take your ID and also a piece of mail that has your address on it.  If you work on Anna Maria Island, go to one of the city halls and show your ID and business card to receive a pass to get back on the island.

Stay tuned!  As we get more information and helpful tips, we will continue to pass along to you!
Stay safe!

Manatee Chamber Small Business Awards!

I had the pleasure of attending the Manatee Chamber of Commerce Small Business of the year awards last Friday! So many wonderful businesses were honored and recognized as finalists and the 4 winners were announced at the fabulous luncheon hosted by Fete Catering and Ballroom.

Team Duncan sends a huge congratulations to Arts and Eats, Williams Wealth Management, Blalock Walkters PA, and PACE Center for Girls for being the winners of the 2017 Small Business Awards. It was so fantastic to hear the description of each business and all that they have done in our community. Manatee County really is a great place to live, work and play!

Duncan Real Estate was honored with this award in 2014 and we were so excited! What an accomplishment to be recognized by your peers for all the hard work that you have done. Small business is really what drives everything in our community. We are so happy to support local businesses and also the Manatee Chamber of Commerce! Did I mention that Darcie Duncan is the chairman elect this year of the Manatee Chamber?! She will be the master of ceremonies for the 2018 Small Business of the Year Awards! Needless to say, she will be a busy bee giving back to her community in a whole new way!

Thank you for supporting local businesses and Duncan Real Estate!

Monday Blues Hit Extra Hard This Week!

Early Monday morning, Anna Maria Island and the surrounding areas were hit by unannounced Tropical Storm Emily.  She came in with a vengenze causing areas to flood, trees became uprooted and even a tornado touched down in NW Bradenton.  Thankfully, we have not heard of anyone getting hurt during the storm but sad to say that some of our local businesses really got the brunt of it.

Our maintenance team has been disbatched to many of our vacation rental properties to make sure all is okay.   The only semi-major report that came in was a tree that broke off and landed on the next door neighbor’s car of one of our rentals.  With a quick response, Team Duncan took care of this small issue.  We were also glad to see that the streets of Anna Maria were not as flooded as they can be.

Nothing like starting the week off with a Tropical Storm!  Hope that this is the only one that we have to deal with  - if we can even be so lucky!

4th of July Parade on Anna Maria Island!

The 4th of July is just a week away and we are getting everything ready for Team Duncan’s float in the 4th of July Parade!  The parade beings at 10 AM on Coquina Beach and goes the entire length of the island until noon.  We will be sharing our float with our friends at the Anna Maria Oyster Bar.  Be on the lookout for beads, shirts, water guns, and a few surprises.  The float is so much fun to be on and trust me, we get just as wet as you do.  Make sure to have plenty of water and liquids to drink during the parade as it is the 4th of July and summer is here – which means it is hot!

Here are a few photos of the float from last year to get you excited about the parade this year!  Make sure to give us a big wave when you see our Beach Theme float go by you.

Memorial Day Weekend on Anna Maria Island!

The long Memorial Day weekend is always so much fun on Anna Maria Island.  If you are not enjoying the beach for the day, you are more than likely on a boat at one of 3 places – Jewfish Key, Eggmont Key or Bird Key.  All three of these places are super popular to go by boat and let me tell you, it felt like every boat  owner was out over the weekend!  I was lucky enough to go boating both Saturday and Sunday over the holiday weekend.  Everyone brought a snack to share and what they wanted to drink.  You literally can stand in the water and enjoy eating, drinking and hanging out with friends.  You always see other people you know while on one of these keys!   It really seems like the place to be not only over a holiday weekend but any weekend during the summer months! If you are not a boat owner, Anna Maria Island has plenty of marinas that offer boat rentals.  We used Bradenton Beach Marina for our rental on Sunday and it was perfect!  We picked up the boat at 12:30 and had it until 4:30.  Just the right amount of time on the water!  Plenty of seats, cup holders, covered seating, and storage!  What more could you ask for. memorial day 2017   Here is a photo from Jewfish over Memorial Day Weekend!  Hope to see you out there next time you are on the water!
